College Liturgies
Marist College’s liturgical life is an integral part of the College’s identity as a Catholic school. Our major whole school celebrations are always liturgically based. We are proud of our long and fruitful association with the local Catholic parish of St Patrick’s. Our links extend to parishes further afield, including St Mary’s Clermont, St Joseph’s Blackwater, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Springsure and The Gemfields Catholic community. We celebrate Mass in our Sacred Space every Thursday morning, led by our parish priest.
Our year begins with an Opening College mass which inducts our seniors into their leadership, welcomes our Year 7 students and new staff, and invites our community to gather in thanks for the year ahead. In consequence, our year is concluded with a liturgically themed Graduation ceremony, blessing and sending our graduates and their families into the future.
One of the highlights of the school year is the Champagnat Day mass which celebrates the anniversary of our founder on the 6th June each year. After our mass, staff and students participate in a shared lunch, a concert showcasing staff and student talent, a boys versus girls netball game and an afternoon of fun games coordinated by our seniors.
In classes, during Home Room times and our weekly assemblies, student and staff led prayer is an integral part of the patterns to college life. Eucharistic celebrations occur according to the liturgical calendar and are celebrated in year groups each semester.
