Our History
Marist College Emerald is a Diocesan run school, one of a large number of Marist schools established throughout Australia and the world. The link between each of these schools is what we call “Marist Education”.
Marist education is a world-wide movement found in over 80 countries around the globe. It is dedicated to a distinctive way of educating in the Catholic tradition. It follows the pedagogical principles developed by its 19th Century founder, Saint Marcellin Champagnat, who believed that all young people could become ‘good Christians’ and ‘good citizens’. He sought to educate young men and women who would be ‘strong in mind’ and ‘gentle of heart’.
Marist education is faith-centered, achievement oriented and based on enhancement of self esteem. It is undertaken in schools marked by their ‘family spirit’, warmth, extensive adult mentoring of students, lack of pretence, and where the Gospel is the guide for all that happens.
As a modern Marist College we strive to continue our nurturing and dynamic relationship with the Australian and International network of Marist schools. Marist Emerald is guided by the Australian Province of The Marist Brothers. ‘Farrelly House’ is named after Brother Mark Farrelly, a Marist Brother who spent his early life in Clermont and who strongly encouraged the establishment of a Marist College at Emerald.
Annually our College participates in in-service programs created and facilitated by Marist Brothers. In addition, our students benefit from regular contact with Queensland Marist Colleges.
