Student Support

At Marist College, the pastoral care team includes the services of two College Counsellors. Counselling support may be required if a student is experiencing anxiety, friendship issues, stress management, grief or loss or any mental health concern. Counselling sessions are available for students in Years 7-12, during school hours and take place in a confidential setting. Parents are welcome to contact the counsellor at any time to discuss concerns.

Counselling for students under the age of 13 requires parental consent to be provided in writing. A copy of the referral and consent form is available in the link below. These forms may be emailed to the counsellors for further action to be undertaken. Any parents wishing to discuss questions arising from the form are free to contact either counsellor at any time.

Informed consent is a term used to describe the processes and procedures that the College Counsellors are bound by in relation to information shared during sessions. Two documents are available below that explain informed consent, one for parents and one for students (see links below). Students aged 13 and over are able to self-refer to counselling. Counsellors encourage students to share with their parents what they are working on in counselling. Research shows that a collaborative effort produces better results from counselling.

A Counselling Confidentiality Statement is available, if parents or students would like further information about the service. Appointments are made by phone or email, directly through the counsellor, or via student self-referral at the front office.
